DeathByRobots Podcast Episode 50!

We’re back after a few weeks of rest (we needed it after the state Lee got himself into while leaving in Ep:49).

In this episode, our big FIVE-O, we have changed things around a bit in the hope to freshen up our weekly chats. We have decided to go down the line of a round-table discussion about recent gaming events, news, and opinions. We also hope to get the chance to talk to the occasional industry guest, while also including questions from TheGameJar community.

This week the team focus on IndieGogo/Kickstarter campaigns and whether there should be more push from the gaming community to get these projects up and running (or not in Joey’s case), the new Xbox and PS3 dashboards, big games that we missed but now love, and some other nonsense inbetween.

If you have any feedback on our ‘new-look’ podcast do let us know. What would you like us to discuss? What would you like us do more or less of? Who would you like us to have on an episode as a guest?

The infamous DBR Podcast - new home, same ridiculously crude style. Featuring the original gang, plus friends, we delve deep into the mystery that is the connection between video games and Scott Mills.

Joey appears to be missing the main reason for Kickstarter, which is “showing a public interest”.

A game developer approaches an investor and says they have an idea for, lets say, an arty game where you walk around a desert connected to random strangers online which you cant communicate with.
The investor says “fuck off, no one would want to play that”. The game developer needs to prove, in advance, that there really IS a market for such game. They could just ask people via a survery, but a lot of people would say that they like the idea, but that doesnt actually gaurentee a sale.
Kickstarter however is the best way for a developer to prove that there is interest in a game idea and by putting your money in in advance you are committing to a purchase.
Also, when putting money into kickstarter, don’t think of it as a pre-order. Instead, think of it as a donation. Then in a years time, if you get a game in the post….result!

Also, RE: Smart Glass / browsing the internet on your games console…. I do that all the time, almost everyday in fact. My PC is my studio (for music making) so the wife and I watch internet videos via the PS3 web browser. If I am on my own I’ll just use my phone, but if theres 2 or more of us, we always use the PS3 browser.
